THE SHAPE OF CREATION
Tregenna Garcia | Be Seen Gallery
There's a particular kind of courage in letting go of the destination. In The Shape of Creation, Tregenna Garcia invites us into that open territory — the moment before things settle, when form is still negotiating with itself.
These paintings didn't begin with a plan. They began with curiosity. Garcia moved through color, texture, and material with a spirit of genuine play, following what felt alive and staying with it until something true emerged. What resulted is a body of work that pulses with its own internal logic — a visual ecosystem shaped by water and fire, primal gesture and accumulated mark, stillness and motion held in the same breath.
Across the works, opposites don't compete so much as coexist. Dark fields give way to luminous emergence. Gestural urgency settles into unexpected quiet. A tiger materializes from layered text and vivid ground, half-mythic, half-memory. Flame-colored fields press against the white of not-yet. These are paintings that carry the energy of becoming — and of the destruction that becoming requires.
What Garcia has assembled here is less a collection of individual works than a living system. Each painting is its own world, and yet together they trace something larger: the recurring pattern of how things come into being, break apart, and find new form. Creation, it turns out, has a shape — and it looks a lot like this.
Come with time, if you can. These works reward it.
